Wednesday Wisdom - Ski Lodge Touch

This week, I'm spending my time in Aspen, Colorado, and I decided to take the time to share with you all this week some tips and ideas from homes to help inspire those looking for that ski lodge feel in their very own homes!

Ive compiled together a list for those living in the mountains or those looking to move into the mountains and created a top 10 must haves for your very own ski lodge home!

Exposed brick and wood materials are a key element to bringing that rustic lodge feel to your home. Think of wooden beams across the ceiling, brick ovens, and wood counter tops to really enhance the features of your lodge.

Warm lighting is essential for your lodge. Fireplaces give off the perfect amount of ambient warm lighting. Adding things such as recessed lighting in the wooden beams, warm lamp shades, and a large light fixture in the center of the room give off the perfect balance of warmth, bringing an open invitation into your lodge that will make all winter dwellers feel at peace and serenity.

Allowing spaces throughout the lodge for others to gather is crucial. Think of large dining tables, big sectional sofas, and allow them to be a focal point for inviting your guests or family to be enticed to sit down and just spend some quality time together, bring out the cards and board games!

Adding large light fixtures all throughout the home are another way to really bring in that lodge aesthetic. Whether its in the bathroom or a large chandelier in your grand living room, don't be afraid to really go all out on your fixtures.

Add lots of furs and fluff to your bedding. Fur pillows, big comfy blankets, and antlers. the perfect combination for the bedding throughout your lodge. Nothing better than after a long day on the slopes to crawl into bed and be surrounded by furs and fluffy blankets!

Areas for the kids to read, study, and do different activities are a must. Allow it for all families to really enjoy themselves while at your lodge. Its the small things.

Allow maximum exposure for natural lighting in your home to really bring the sun and outdoors inside.

Rustic is in right now. Think of different ways to create your own unique rustic touch to your different spaces. License plate backsplash in a bathroom for instance, who would have thought it could bring such a statement to an area. Small detail, but GIANT impact!

Mud Rooms.... These are essential in any lodge. A place to keep your skis, boards and coats after a day on the slopes to dry and relax. Don't trail all that snow all over. These are essential in all lodges.

And finally dens. Allow yourselves a space for a den for the guys to escape off to and watch the game, share some scotch, or play some cards.

So stay tuned for more ideas next Wednesday and ill keep you all posted on my journey in Aspen!
